BTT — Basic Theory Test

What does a circular sign with a red border generally indicate?
  • A prohibition — something you must not do (Correct answer)
  • A warning about the road ahead
  • Helpful information for drivers

Circular signs with red borders are prohibitory — they tell you what you must not do.

You approach a zebra crossing with a pedestrian waiting at the kerb. You should:
  • Sound your horn and drive on
  • Slow down and be prepared to stop (Correct answer)
  • Speed up to pass before they cross

Pedestrians have priority at zebra crossings — slow down and be ready to stop.

The traffic light turns amber as you approach the junction. You should:
  • Accelerate to clear the junction quickly
  • Continue at the same speed
  • Stop before the stop line if it is safe to do so (Correct answer)

Amber means stop before the line unless stopping would be unsafe.

Unless otherwise signposted, the speed limit on Singapore roads is:
  • 50 km/h (Correct answer)
  • 60 km/h
  • 70 km/h

The default speed limit on Singapore roads is 50 km/h unless signs state otherwise.

Who is responsible for ensuring passengers wear their seat belts?
  • Each passenger only
  • The driver (Correct answer)
  • The vehicle owner

The driver is legally responsible for ensuring all passengers are belted up.

FTT — Final Theory Test

In good conditions, what is the minimum safe following distance on an expressway?
  • A two-second gap from the vehicle ahead (Correct answer)
  • One car length at any speed
  • Ten metres regardless of speed

Use the two-second rule — and double it in rain or poor visibility.

Before changing lanes on an expressway, the correct sequence is:
  • Signal, then change lanes immediately
  • Check mirrors, signal, check blind spot, then move (Correct answer)
  • Move first, then signal

Mirrors, signal, blind-spot check, then move — never skip the shoulder check.

Your car starts to skid on a wet road. You should:
  • Brake hard immediately
  • Ease off the accelerator and steer gently in the direction you want to go (Correct answer)
  • Turn the steering wheel sharply against the skid

Sudden braking or sharp steering makes a skid worse — ease off and steer smoothly.

Your vehicle breaks down on an expressway. You should:
  • Stop in your lane and switch on hazard lights
  • Move onto the road shoulder, switch on hazard lights and place a breakdown sign behind (Correct answer)
  • Reverse slowly to the nearest exit

Get onto the shoulder, use hazard lights and warn traffic behind — never stay in a live lane.

When overtaking on an expressway, you should:
  • Overtake on the left if the right lane is slow
  • Use the road shoulder if traffic is heavy
  • Overtake on the right and return to your lane when safely clear (Correct answer)

Overtake only on the right, then signal and return once you can see the vehicle in your mirror.

RTT — Riding Theory Test

When braking on a wet road, a rider should:
  • Use only the front brake for maximum power
  • Brake earlier and apply both brakes gently (Correct answer)
  • Use only the rear brake to avoid skidding

On wet roads, brake earlier and more gently, using both brakes together.

Before changing lanes, a rider must:
  • Rely on mirrors alone
  • Signal and move at the same time
  • Do a head check over the shoulder — mirrors have blind spots (Correct answer)

Mirrors never show everything — a shoulder head check is essential before every lane change.

Riding near large vehicles, you should position yourself:
  • Where the driver can see you in their mirrors (Correct answer)
  • Directly beside the vehicle's rear wheels
  • As close behind as possible to save fuel

Stay out of blind spots — if you can't see the driver's mirrors, they can't see you.

When carrying a pillion passenger, they must:
  • Hold an umbrella if it rains
  • Wear a securely fastened helmet and keep both feet on the footrests (Correct answer)
  • Sit side-saddle for comfort

Pillion riders must wear a fastened helmet, sit astride and keep feet on the footrests.

To stay visible when riding at night, you should:
  • Wear dark clothing to reduce glare
  • Ride close behind other vehicles
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing and keep your headlight on (Correct answer)

Reflective gear and a working headlight make you far more visible to other road users at night.
